Paradigm Shift - The Drum Sampler Reinvented

To tune and process the sound with the freedom and quality needed, a whole new type of sample engine had to be constructed. 127 velocity layers with round robins, up to 16 individually controllable microphones, insert effects of absolute top quality, an internal routing system without boundaries and an advanced sample selection/processing algorithm to guarantee the dynamics and realism.

Drum Experience has the core engine which is able to play hundreds of samples simultaneously, perform the processing of the insert effects, apply pitch and envelope to the sound and route the audio; all this on a personal computer or laptop without the need for extra hardware.

Up to 30 drums and custom samples can be loaded in a single session. There is built-in support for loading and mixing drums from all our different drumkits. There is no fixed number of drums of a certain type you can load, which lets you do spectacular work with overlapping snares for example.

The architecture of Drum Experience is technology at its finest; a marriage between science and art and a complete reinvention of what a drum sampler is and how it should work.
A Totally Fluid System

The routing system of Drum Experience is constructed to allow any setup, helping you take on even the most challenging missions. The way audio of drums, buses and effects can be transmitted through the system is extremely customizable.
If you are used to working with a particular mixer setup, Drum Experience won't stand in your way.

Route each drum to a different bus with its own effect-chain or gather groups of drums on a bus or even route bus to bus for the ultimate versatility. Route some microphones of a drum to one bus and other microphones to another. Even route the same drum to multiple buses.

Drum Experience also comes with presets for a standard setup that lets you get started with a full drumkit instantly. Many more setups can also be found in the Preset Exchange. Having tried this workflow, everything else will feel like running a marathon in lead boots.

Super-size Drums

There are powerful advantages to having super-size drums:

A highly dynamic range which can utilize 127 velocity layers + unlimited round robins for each velocity layer.

Samples are allowed to decay at natural speed.

Different acoustic properties and degrees of presence are available for mixing as the drums have been recorded with many microphones (up to 16/drum).

This places the power of the most authentic and dynamic drums in your hands.

The streamlined multithreaded architecture of Drum Experience provides exceptional low loading times. A drumkit of 4 GB can be loaded in 10-20 seconds on a fairly powerful computer even without SSD-hardware. Of course the drums can be streamed from harddrive or downscaled to meet the performance of most computers. The streaming, also known as caching, also benefits by our multithreaded technology as it provides a glitch- and artifact free experience.
Custom Samples

Import any wavefile from your sound library or choose from the sample-collection that comes with Drum Experience.

Play them on their own or create multi-layered drums combining full drums and single samples.

Browse and play the samples in real-time or simply drag'n'drop into any slot. Send them through the routing system, with envelope, pitch and all the effects.

Insert Effects - where the magic really happens

The state-of-the-art Bona Fide Effects are integrated into Drum Experience which means that, combined with the sublime quality of the samples, it's possible to apply heavy processing with top quality and shape one and the same drumkit into a large number of different sounds. The effects can be inserted in any order on any bus and even be rearranged and saved as presets. 32 buses with 5 effects each give up to 160 concurrent effects.

TRANSIENT SHAPER
The Transient Shaper is an effect especially made for Drum Experience. It is particularly well suited to drum mixing. The Transient in Drum Experience can accomplish results which previously has been considered impossible. The unique event-based algorithm can handle every case perfectly, no matter the speed of the drum-roll, or the volume of the tiny ghost note. Even heavily reverberated sounds can be shaped flawlessly, every time.

You can get that sought after extra punch by increasing the attack or make a perfect snappy fat kick drum by lowering the sustain ringing. The quality is just amazing. It also, just as the compressor, has a built-in Output Ceiling-unit with a hard or soft saturation clipper, an Analog Limiter and a Brickwall Limiter.

It also has the fantastic cutting-edge TransEQ. This innovation adds equalization to the precious transient milliseconds which brings perfection to the characteristics of the transients.

Presets - From Raw to Larger Than Life

When starting from scratch the drums of Drum Experience will sound just like you're sitting behind a glass window in a world class studio looking and listening to the drums being laid down. This is perfect if the song is craving a raw authentic sound. However, most often you will want to shape them a tiny bit or even transform them into an Arena Rock bonanza, drop a heavy House beat or take a stroll down the Jazz lane.

Drum Experience can deliver an amazing variety of sounds and styles, in fact one and the same drumkit can sound remarkably different depending on who's mixing - just like it's supposed to be. This would have been impossible had we destroyed the samples by heavy pre-processing yielding a single sound. With effects and tools of the top-most grade and low CPU performance usage, the "pre-processing" can be done in real time without sacrificing quality.

We have understood the importance of presets to give you quick access to a wide array of sounds. Through the Preset Exchange you can preview, download and even upload your own presets for Drum Experience. The vision is a huge library of different sounds steadily growing. Centipeak will from time to time also invite producers to make packs of signature presets to utilize their great inspiration and experience.

Crafting the Sound

The Pitch is a device that can be very useful for getting a drum to fit into the mix. This spectacular Pitch can retune in a way that keeps the original punch and power of the drums. The hallmark feature, Preserve Attack is one major reason for its magnificient sonic results.

Each drum has an Envelope which is a real power tool. Reshape the drums with unprecedented precision with 24 points in a 10 second time scale. Craft the transient or tame the sustain or let your imagination run wild and discover its amazing possibilites. And best of all, Every microphone, articulation and midi event combination has it's own envelope...

The unique Volume Curve let's you control the volume of different velocities of the drum. This can be used to give the low ghost notes a boost in the mix or reduce the volume of the highest velocites. (Not to be confused with the Velocity Curve which changes the velocity of the MIDI-note before it reaches the drum.)

The microphone window let's you reverse the phase of the samples and time shift each microphone of every drum individually. This degree of control and power is what Drum Experience is all about.

The Physics of Drums

When the stick hits the drum it produces a complex system of vibrations in the head, rims, metal and other components. Hitting the drum again while it's already playing does not cause two identical sounds to play mixed into each other, but instead an advanced interplay of the old and the new sound will be the result. The old sound is supressed in an ever-changing way and
Drum Experience emulates the behaviour by giving each drum its own unique way of handling sequences of hits, staying true to the characteristics of the original drum.

Rapid sequences of hits also sound different than slow sequences because the attack of the hits in the rapid sequence is suppressed. This is emulated by the special feature called Stick-to-reality mode. It will make drumrolls and other fast playing styles sound extremely realistic.

Product Information

WHERE & HOW TO BUY IT
Drum Experience is distributed online only, directly from us through the webshop on this site. Once you have purchased it, you will receive instructions on how to download it along with any drumkits you buy.

ILOK - COPY PROTECTION
Drum Experience is protected by the industry standard hardware copy protection system from PACE called iLok. The particular version of the dongle required to run Drum Experience is the fairly new iLok2 which has lower latency for license checks than the previous version and storage space for hundreds of licenses for different programs. The iLok2 is NOT included when you purchase Drum Experience but must be bought separately. All well-sorted music gear retailers sell them.

INSTALLATION
Installing Drum Experience is easy (and described in the manual), as it comes in a zip-file containing the software which you simply drag into the plug-in folder of your DAW and a data folder which you can place anywhere on your computer. Every drumkit also comes in its own zip-files which you download, unzip, and put in your data-folder. This design has been elected to simplify the moving and sharing of Drum Experience between systems and over networks of studio computers where you don't want to be forced to walk around to every computer to run an installation program.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Drum Experience requires a fairly new x86/x64 compatible computer with Windows or MacOSX. The more processing power you have the more effects and concurrent sounds will be able to run in realtime. 2GB of RAM is something of a bare minimum as the operating system often consumes a large chunk of that. Even though the drumkits are large they can still be used on a 2GB system, but reduced versions of the drumkits will have to be used, caching often being a good option. 4GB works well but 8GB of memory is recommended, as then you can have a complete drumkit in memory with plenty to spare for other plug-ins, audio data and other system resources.
